Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK): wheelchair, stretcher and oxygen handover for medical passengers

Separate airline mobility assistance, equipment handover and medically staffed ground transfer; one booking does not cover all three.

The airport-code decision

PEK identifies Beijing Capital, not a generic city pickup. Confirm terminal and flight on the current itinerary, the point where the carrier or airport assistance releases the traveller, and the authorised public-area pickup position. The road provider needs the receiving address and a delay contact. Beijing has a second major airport, so the code must reach the dispatcher.

Beijing destination precision

The receiving address must distinguish hospital department, ward or public entrance, not just a hospital group name. Ask whether the institution accepts the individual at the new arrival hour. A vehicle provider confirms its own loading, crew and equipment against the route from the actual airport or sending facility. The coordinator can connect these decisions, but cannot issue a hospital acceptance or give a driver access to a restricted terminal.

Mobility at Capital Airport

At PEK, a wheelchair request and a stretcher or oxygen plan require different responsibilities. Ask the operating airline where it hands the passenger and equipment over; the road supplier confirms its own chair, oxygen and loading. If the ticket instead names PKX, none of these PEK pickup instructions can simply be copied across. The receiving hospital must independently accept the traveller’s support and revised arrival window.

Exact airport handover

At Capital (PEK), wheelchair assistance, a stretcher and oxygen are three distinct decisions. Ask the operating airline which mobility and cabin support it accepts for this exact flight; ask the road provider what it can supply after airline assistance ends. The patient may use one chair or oxygen source in the terminal and a different one on the road. Draw the permitted changeover point and assign staff for each physical transfer. Neither a confirmed wheelchair request nor a road ambulance booking proves the other supports are accepted.

Direction and changed arrival

If the traveller can sit and transfer, first establish what airline mobility assistance covers and whether an accessible vehicle is sufficient. If the person must remain on a stretcher, the carrier’s aircraft and terminal arrangement requires its own decision, while the road operator must accept loading and onward support. For prescribed oxygen, map continuity across aircraft, terminal wait, loading and destination. The treating clinician sets the requirement; carrier and suppliers assess their own segments. A changed condition before flight invalidates assumptions based on the original equipment request.

Separate three mobility phases

At PEK the passenger may use an airline chair in the terminal, their personal chair after baggage reclaim and a road provider chair at loading. Put each change into the handover instruction and state who helps if the personal chair is delayed. For an oxygen-dependent traveller, the treating team and actual suppliers must agree on support during the transfer gap; a cabin approval does not cover public arrivals. The accepting hospital needs the updated clinical support and hour, not merely an “arrived PEK” message. If the flight changes to PKX, restart the airport and ground acceptance chain.

Decision pathway

Confirm airport code, operating flight and the permitted assistance endpoint; secure actual road-provider and receiving acceptance. If terminal, support or arrival time changes, revise and acknowledge one current instruction.
