Airport pickup or medically staffed transfer in China: choosing the correct scope
An English-speaking driver, a wheelchair service and an ambulance address different problems; the patient’s assessed needs determine the booking.

Begin with the clinician’s transport requirements
Ask whether the patient can sit and travel independently, needs help moving through an airport or has clinician-specified oxygen, stretcher or monitoring needs on the road. A diagnosis label alone does not establish the required vehicle.
Separate airport and road responsibility
The airline or airport may arrange wheelchair assistance within their own operating area. A booked driver cannot automatically enter a restricted terminal area or provide in-flight assistance; clarify where staff meet and who brings the patient to the vehicle.
Know what the proposed provider supplies
An ordinary ride offers transport but no clinical monitoring. Accessible transport differs from a medically staffed ground service with named equipment and personnel. Ask the provider to confirm its actual capabilities rather than assuming a marketing label implies them.
Check the destination handover
Whether the trip ends at a hotel, home or receiving hospital determines who meets the passenger and how support ends. Confirm family and luggage capacity and what happens if the flight is delayed.
Handover responsibility map
Treating team confirms clinical needs.
Hospital and provider confirm acceptance and execution.
Authorised party confirms scope and revised costs.
Questions before a booking
Does a booking called “medical transfer” always include a clinician?
No. Request the staff roles, equipment and pickup boundary in writing for the actual case.
