Ask for a local alternative first
A US self-pay quote from a hospital outpatient department may differ from a local standalone imaging centre. Obtain the actual cash quotation, timing and imaging protocol at home before comparing a trip to China. A headline international price comparison cannot stand in for the patient’s own available option.
Separate the costs of a trip
Include airfare, accommodation, hospital registration and imaging, any specialist consultation, interpreting, report translation and onward travel. Ask the intended provider what files and reports it can release; a cheap scan has limited practical value if the home clinician cannot use the result.
Identify cases where China changes the decision
A traveller already visiting China, a patient combining several consultations, or someone needing a particular specialist pathway has a different equation from a person flying only for a routine scan. The treating clinician should determine whether travel and waiting are clinically appropriate.
Plan airport support only if needed
Ordinary airport pickup, accessible transport and clinical road support are different arrangements. If there are mobility limits or equipment requirements, share the treating team’s instructions privately so local availability can be checked separately from the imaging appointment.
