ANA medical clearance for China journeys
A China journey on ANA can be booked before the clinical and carriage questions are resolved. The traveller needs a plan for the actual operating flight, any special assistance, ground transfer and receiving care.
What this carrier actually publishes
ANA lists a designated MEDIF for medical oxygen, POC or ventilator use, stretcher or incubator, and conditions that may change suddenly. This is the airline’s decision process, not a promise of acceptance. Determine which current form or booking channel applies to the exact requested support.
MEDIF triggers and equipment handoff
The ANA form is a useful starting point for a family who has a POC, ventilator, stretcher or incubator request. The practical question is whether ANA will operate every sector and which device will actually be used onboard. Put the model and intended use next to the flight sector instead of forwarding a generic equipment inventory. A Japan connection also needs a plan for transfer between ANA assistance, the escort and the next gate. The airport wheelchair and the patient’s own equipment should not be treated as interchangeable.
Route the four MEDIF triggers
For ANA, sort the request into oxygen cylinder, POC or ventilator, stretcher or incubator, or a condition that may change suddenly. The designated MEDIF asks the treating doctor to describe the current assessment. Check ANA’s current instructions for when to submit it and whether a separate equipment request is needed. A companion’s ticket does not answer those equipment questions.
Clinical assessment is separate
The treating clinician assesses whether the proposed flight and transfers are appropriate for this person now, including seating, positioning and any prescribed oxygen or equipment. ANA determines whether it can carry the traveller and provide or accept the requested arrangements. Neither the coordinator nor a website can substitute for either decision.
Japan transfer and equipment custody
If the itinerary changes planes in Japan, record the operating flight for each sector, the location of the personal device, and who moves it through the connection. Ask ANA whether the same approval covers both of its flights; if another airline operates the onward sector, request that airline’s decision. Have the China road supplier confirm a different oxygen and power arrangement for its vehicle.
If the plan changes
After a medical review, changes to the operating carrier, aircraft, support needs or patient condition must be raised with the clinician and ANA before travel. Reconfirm the road booking and receiver against the revised itinerary. Do not send medical records through the public enquiry box; use an authorised direct channel.
Decision pathway
Ask the ANA counter for the relevant current MEDIF path, obtain clinician completion, then wait for a decision tied to flight and equipment. Once accepted, close the Japan transit and China pickup gaps. If a model or operating carrier changes, resubmit the question before departure.
