Certificate versus reserved stretcher space
JAL publishes both medical-certificate guidance and separate advance-notice pages for a stretcher, oxygen bottle and devices. A clinician-completed certificate communicates the medical assessment; it does not reserve an aircraft stretcher installation or oxygen supply. Ask about the actual JAL flight, cabin configuration and any companion condition before arranging a China hospital release. If a domestic Japan sector is included, the passenger’s ability to change support arrangements during the transfer needs a separate operational answer.
Certificate and service reservation are distinct
JAL’s medical certificate guidance and its advance-notice pages answer different questions. A clinician may complete the certificate, while the traveller still needs JAL to confirm a stretcher, oxygen bottle or medical device on a particular operating flight. Ask which form and equipment description are current. Do not use a hospital’s discharge note as evidence that aircraft space has been reserved.
Clinical assessment is separate
The treating clinician assesses whether the proposed flight and transfers are appropriate for this person now, including seating, positioning and any prescribed oxygen or equipment. Japan Airlines determines whether it can carry the traveller and provide or accept the requested arrangements. Neither the coordinator nor a website can substitute for either decision.
Japanese domestic and international segments
A traveller could leave a regional Japanese hospital by road, take a domestic flight, then board an international China sector. Identify where the wheelchair, escort and oxygen move during the transfer and whether the same JAL support is accepted on both aircraft. If another operator appears, seek its own decision. A China receiver needs the final arrival sector, not the first flight in the booking.
If the plan changes
After a medical review, changes to the operating carrier, aircraft, support needs or patient condition must be raised with the clinician and Japan Airlines before travel. Reconfirm the road booking and receiver against the revised itinerary. Do not send medical records through the public enquiry box; use an authorised direct channel.
