Lufthansa medical clearance for China journeys

A China journey on Lufthansa can be booked before the clinical and carriage questions are resolved. The traveller needs a plan for the actual operating flight, any special assistance, ground transfer and receiving care.

What this carrier actually publishes

Lufthansa publishes its own MEDIF and Medical Operation Center process; the attending physician supplies medical information for airline review. This is the airline’s decision process, not a promise of acceptance. Determine which current form or booking channel applies to the exact requested support.

Route documents through the Medical Operation Center

Lufthansa makes its MEDIF available for the attending physician and uses a Medical Operation Center process for clearance. A case manager should distinguish an ordinary mobility request from the clinical review triggered by medical support, and send the current form through the airline’s stated channel. For an itinerary via Frankfurt or Munich, record the aircraft operator of every leg and how the escort and equipment move during the connection. The China-side road supplier should receive an operational brief, not the airline’s confidential clinical file.

MEDIF goes to the airline medical process

Lufthansa publishes a MEDIF for the treating physician and Medical Operation Center information. The case coordinator can collect the flight and assistance requirements but cannot sign the clinical portion or grant clearance. Confirm the airline’s current submission channel and whether oxygen, mobility or an escort request calls for additional arrangements. Keep the airline’s response tied to the actual operating flight.

Clinical assessment is separate

The treating clinician assesses whether the proposed flight and transfers are appropriate for this person now, including seating, positioning and any prescribed oxygen or equipment. Lufthansa determines whether it can carry the traveller and provide or accept the requested arrangements. Neither the coordinator nor a website can substitute for either decision.

Frankfurt or Munich transfer and China road brief

A change between long-haul and onward flights can involve another operating carrier or a terminal assistance handover. Identify the staffed transfer point and how prescribed equipment is powered and carried during the interval. A China pickup vehicle must be booked for the final arrival airport and destination care level. Share only the operational needs with that supplier; the full MEDIF should remain within authorised clinical and airline channels.

If the plan changes

After a medical review, changes to the operating carrier, aircraft, support needs or patient condition must be raised with the clinician and Lufthansa before travel. Reconfirm the road booking and receiver against the revised itinerary. Do not send medical records through the public enquiry box; use an authorised direct channel.

Decision pathway

Get the physician-completed Lufthansa form and the Medical Operation Center response for the proposed support; confirm each operator and connection. Only then align ground crews and receiving-care time.
