Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA) medical transfer and patient handover
At SHA, verify the operating flight and terminal, the permitted public-side meeting point and the receiving destination; do not assume airside access.
The airport-code decision
SHA identifies Shanghai Hongqiao, not a generic city pickup. Confirm terminal and flight on the current itinerary, the point where the carrier or airport assistance releases the traveller, and the authorised public-area pickup position. The road provider needs the receiving address and a delay contact. Shanghai has two flight airports, and an inter-airport transfer is a separate road leg.
Beijing destination precision
The receiving address must distinguish hospital department, ward or public entrance, not just a hospital group name. Ask whether the institution accepts the individual at the new arrival hour. A vehicle provider confirms its own loading, crew and equipment against the route from the actual airport or sending facility. The coordinator can connect these decisions, but cannot issue a hospital acceptance or give a driver access to a restricted terminal.
Hongqiao-specific itinerary
SHA refers to Shanghai Hongqiao, while PVG is Pudong. The terminal-side meeting point and city road leg must match the flight’s actual airport. A hospital-to-SHA departure also has a different check-in clock from an inbound medical arrival. Ask which party moves the patient between ambulance and airline assistance; a road vehicle is not authorised merely because its driver has a medical brief.
Exact airport handover
Hongqiao (SHA) is a specific Shanghai airport node, not a general city pickup address. Do not substitute PVG when the ticket says SHA; the airports are different road and handover assignments. Obtain the actual operating flight, date and terminal before asking a supplier to confirm its meeting point. The airline’s mobility service has its own endpoint, and a local road team can only meet where authorised. The final hospital or home address and named receiver determine the onward scope. An airport name by itself cannot establish who helps during the terminal-to-vehicle gap.
Direction and changed arrival
An inbound patient may need airport-to-hospital transport; an outbound patient needs hospital release, road pickup and the airline handover before departure. These are opposite directions and different decision times. Ask whether a wheelchair, stretcher, oxygen or staff is needed during unloading and the public-side wait. A flight delay or change of terminal can cancel the ground meeting plan; the dispatcher should reaccept the new point. If the receiver cannot take the patient at the revised arrival, the responsible clinicians need a new destination decision, not a driver’s improvisation.
Hongqiao after a hospital discharge
For a discharge-to-SHA trip, ask the hospital when the patient can be handed over, whether wheelchair or oxygen support is needed in the road vehicle and when the airline will take over. A flight to Hongqiao as the arrival point raises another task: establish who meets in the public area and which Shanghai receiver accepts the passenger. A personal wheelchair may return at a different point from luggage. Avoid using a PVG photo, terminal or contact in the SHA dispatch sheet. The real airport code matters more than a generic Shanghai label.
Decision pathway
Confirm airport code, operating flight and the permitted assistance endpoint; secure actual road-provider and receiving acceptance. If terminal, support or arrival time changes, revise and acknowledge one current instruction.
