A medical traveller at Xi'an Xianyang International Airport (XIY) may need wheelchair movement, a stretcher or oxygen continuity. These are separate equipment and acceptance questions across aircraft, terminal and road vehicle.
Wheelchair is a mobility pathway
Ask the operating carrier what wheelchair assistance it provides and where its staff will hand over. Establish whether the traveller can transfer between seat, airport chair and vehicle, and who may perform those transfers. The airport’s public-side meeting point must be acknowledged by the road party. A requested wheelchair does not approve a stretcher or on-board oxygen. XIY serves the Xi’an area but the airport is in Xianyang. Separate the airport pickup address from the hospital district and any onward Shaanxi destination.
Stretcher and oxygen continuity
If the person cannot sit, ask the carrier about its exact stretcher process before buying a ticket or dispatching road equipment. XIY is in Xianyang although it serves Xi’an. The public airport meeting point and a hospital department in Xi’an should therefore be written as different locations. An onward trip elsewhere in Shaanxi requires a separate crew-duration and receiving check. If the flight changes, verify that its new airport is still XIY before sending the same road team. “Xi’an airport” is insufficient for a patient with equipment and a narrow handover window.
Handle disruption before it becomes a missed meeting
At XIY, an international flight and a domestic feeder can involve different terminal processes. The airport publishes separate arrival and departure guides; check the actual itinerary before arranging a wheelchair, stretcher or oxygen changeover. A road stretcher to an Xi’an hospital is not implied by airline special assistance. Name the physical transfer staff and equipment on the Xianyang-to-Xi’an leg.
Separate responsibility and payment
The XIY flight code should be paired with the actual terminal and a road endpoint, not merely “Xi’an.” If the destination is a hospital in Xi’an, ask its receiving department to confirm the window after the Xianyang-to-Xi’an movement. If the onward endpoint is another Shaanxi city, it is a longer assignment requiring new approval. The airport’s published guide cannot grant clinical admission or road access rights.
Local receiving change control
XIY’s Xianyang location and the Xi’an hospital address should appear as separate places on the handover note. An onward Shaanxi destination creates an additional road duty. If a family identifies a different hospital after landing, confirm its department and capacity before rerouting. Airline personnel at the airport cannot decide which destination facility will receive the patient.
Decision pathway
For a seated mobile traveller, test ordinary accessible transport; for clinician-specified equipment, obtain separate airline and road acceptance; for an unstable situation, return to the treating team for reassessment before movement. Confirm the real XIY public-area handover at the time of travel.
