The airport handover must be named

At the hospital, determine who releases the patient and how the person is transferred to the vehicle. In the vehicle, specify whether the escort observes, assists with oxygen or handles medication under an agreed plan. At the terminal, define the permitted stopping and meeting point and whether the airline’s wheelchair or special-service team is expecting the passenger. The vehicle provider cannot promise gate access by calling the job a medical escort. If airline clearance is still pending, a quote can be prepared but the final departure time remains conditional. Family luggage and seats should be stated before the vehicle is assigned.

Use the discharge-to-terminal sequence to scope the job

Ask the ward when release is possible, whether the escort meets inside or at an entrance, and who transfers the patient into the vehicle. The endpoint may be the public departure zone, check-in or a later agreed point; each has different cost and access. A delayed ward release should trigger an updated airport handover rather than merely a faster drive.

A final operational check

Before the final dispatch call, confirm the ward exit, actual flight status and airport special-service request on one sheet. If the hospital will only release the patient at its entrance, assign who assists from the room to that point. If airline acceptance is still pending, do not mistake an ambulance booking for permission to board.
