Late-night arrival in China: will the hospital or care facility receive the patient?

A night flight can arrive after a planned receiving service closes; confirm the destination pathway before dispatch.

Do not assume a daytime acceptance covers the night

Ask the intended hospital department or care facility who is on duty at the projected arrival hour and which entrance is available. A planned outpatient appointment or rehabilitation admission does not automatically extend to an overnight handover.

Calculate the real arrival at the destination

Flight landing, mobility assistance, border procedures and baggage may add substantial time before road pickup. Give the facility a plausible range, not the scheduled landing time. Add a method for reporting an earlier or later actual arrival.

Differentiate emergency care from planned admission

If the patient needs emergency assessment, follow clinical advice and local emergency arrangements; in Shanghai the medical emergency number is 120. A pre-booked non-emergency vehicle is not a substitute for emergency dispatch.

Name the after-hours contact

Record a receiving clinician or facility contact, the person authorised to change the destination, and the driver or crew phone. If no facility can confirm night receipt, leave the transfer provisional and seek a responsible alternative.

Questions before a booking

Can the ground provider decide to take the patient to another hospital?

A destination change has clinical and receiving-facility implications. Agree who has authority and how the appropriate hospital is contacted.

Does 24-hour airport operation mean 24-hour admission?

No. Airport and receiving-facility operating arrangements are separate.

Useful details for a first enquiry

A route and support summary is enough to start; discuss detailed records directly by email with the coordinator.
