Air China medical clearance and special medical assistance
Air China’s own special-travel instructions are the starting point for an Air China-operated journey. A doctor’s view of fitness, Air China’s carriage decision and a China-side ground vehicle are separate approvals and arrangements.
Identify the operating carrier and category
Read the itinerary’s operating carrier, not only a marketing flight number. Air China publishes separate instructions for injured or sick travellers, stretcher passengers and portable oxygen concentrators. Determine whether the request is ordinary wheelchair help, a condition requiring medical documentation, continuous POC use or a stretcher. The applicable instruction and lead time may differ; a family should obtain the current version from Air China for the exact route.
Medical documents and approval
Air China’s official information describes medical certificate requirements for specified sick travellers and equipment situations. Ask the treating clinician to document current status and needs, then submit the carrier-required material by its current channel. A doctor’s statement is input to Air China’s assessment, not a promise of acceptance. Recheck if a connection uses another actual carrier or the condition changes after approval.
Stretcher, oxygen and ground interfaces
A stretcher changes cabin seating and airport handling. A POC requires the carrier’s device and power rules; it is not the same as an assumed onboard oxygen cylinder. Ask Air China who handles the passenger within the terminal, and separately assign hospital-to-airport and arrival road transport. Do not infer that airline approval provides a road medical escort.
A submission sequence to verify with Air China
First match the traveller’s request to Air China’s injured/sick, stretcher or POC information; next obtain the current forms and medical-document timing for that category and actual route; then submit through an accepted channel and wait for explicit status. Ask the airline whether the proposed device is allowed in use, in carriage only, or not at all. Arrange the hospital and arrival road teams after the airborne method is clear. The page cannot itself certify fitness or approve a particular flight.
Questions to resolve before a family pays
Ask Air China which specific category the passenger belongs to and whether the route and aircraft can support it. If a POC is involved, supply the exact model and expected use; ask about battery and documentation under the current Air China instruction. For a stretcher, ask about available service on the operating flight and the required companion and medical certification. A patient with recent illness may face a different evidence path from someone seeking mobility help alone. Ask how a change to date, connecting carrier or condition affects acceptance. Only the airline can give an answer for its service, and ground transport remains a separate booking.
Decision pathway
If only mobility assistance is needed, ask Air China for its wheelchair process. If recent illness, treatment or equipment triggers medical review, follow the relevant medical instructions and wait for acceptance. If stretcher or POC is needed, use that dedicated policy and verify route capacity. Do not finalise the ground itinerary until airline status is clear.
Information for a useful first enquiry
