The operated-flight constraint

The sick-passenger notice limits its process to specified China Eastern or Shanghai Airlines operated flights and sets conditions for eligible connections. The stretcher notice has a narrower direct-flight scope and specific airport capability considerations. Check every operating segment and do not infer that a marketing flight number or a generic doctor letter is sufficient. The airline must confirm the current route and its capacity.

Different forms and timing

The sick-traveller notice describes special-passenger application, risk confirmation and a current fitness-to-fly or diagnosis/postoperative document. The stretcher, supplied oxygen and POC notices describe their own materials and application windows. Consult the precise notice immediately before submission; the relevant medical document may have a much shorter validity window than the request lead time. A generated booking record is not final service acceptance.

Oxygen choices and handovers

Do not combine airline-supplied oxygen and an approved POC into a single “oxygen booking”. The airline’s own notices distinguish them and impose equipment and support conditions. The treating clinician should specify the need; the carrier decides permitted onboard supply. Assign separate oxygen responsibility from hospital to airport, through any wait, and after arrival.

Avoid the form-timing trap

A family may learn of a service several days ahead, but the medical certificate required for a specific category can need issuance much nearer departure. Therefore sequence the request window and document issuance separately. Check whether the whole connection satisfies the sick-passenger rules; a stretcher request may instead require a direct eligible flight. If a later flight change alters the actual operator or airport capability, ask China Eastern to confirm the application again rather than reusing a prior approval.

Read the notice that matches the actual support

China Eastern’s sick-passenger, stretcher, oxygen and POC notices should not be treated as four names for a single request. A seated traveller who uses a POC may need both clinical evidence and device approval; a stretcher traveller faces cabin-space and airport-capability questions. The airline’s sick-passenger notice also distinguishes eligible connection conditions, whereas the stretcher pathway can be restricted to suitable direct flights. In a case involving a connection, tell the airline every operated segment and the required support during transit. Then align ground pickup and destination handover to the accepted itinerary rather than an unapproved proposed flight.

Decision pathway

If the traveller only needs ordinary mobility help, inspect that assistance category. If illness or recent surgery requires review, use the sick-passenger process. If unable to sit, examine the dedicated stretcher notice and eligible direct flight. If oxygen is needed, choose the airline oxygen or POC notice that matches the actual equipment. Wait for airline confirmation before treating the journey as bookable.
