Stretcher passenger arriving in China: who handles the ground handover?

Confirm the flight arrangement before asking for an airport vehicle

A stretcher reservation is an airline decision tied to the operating carrier, flight, medical information and its special-service rules. A ground provider cannot approve boarding, the in-flight escort or the aircraft configuration. Ask the sending team for the airline’s confirmed plan and the name of the person travelling with the patient.

Separate three physical segments

Write down who supports the patient from the aircraft through the approved airport and border process, who takes over at a permitted meeting point, and who transports the patient to the next facility. The road team should be told whether its assignment begins at public arrivals or another point expressly authorised by the airport and relevant authorities.

Describe the ground support in clinical terms

The treating team should specify whether the patient still needs a stretcher, oxygen, monitoring or qualified personnel once off the aircraft. The local provider must independently confirm the equipment, staff, vehicle configuration and loading method it can supply. A stretcher on a plane does not prove that an ordinary road pickup will be safe or sufficient.

Confirm who will receive the patient

Before the flight, identify the receiving hospital or care facility, contact person, arrival window and acceptance status. A booked flight and airport vehicle do not create an admission right. A patient travelling to a home or other non-hospital destination still needs an agreed handover person and suitable onward support.

Make a delay and escalation plan

Agree who informs the road team when the flight lands, when border and baggage procedures finish and if the patient’s condition or destination changes. The overseas escort and China receiving team should each have an accessible telephone number. For an urgent or deteriorating patient, follow the responsible airport, emergency and clinical teams’ procedures rather than treating a private booking as emergency clearance.
