Leaving Shanghai hospital for an international flight: paperwork and handover
Hospital discharge and airline medical clearance are separate; identify documents and owners before fixing the pickup.

Start at the hospital, not at the airport
Ask the treating hospital which discharge documents, medication information and instructions it can provide and when it expects the patient to be released. The hospital may have its own process for moving the patient from ward to entrance. A booked car cannot bring forward clinical discharge.
Ask the operating carrier what it requires
The airline may assess recent illness, mobility, medical equipment or onboard escort under its rules. The Shanghai municipal guide describes documents for certain foreign patients leaving for medical reasons, but the exact route and case require direct confirmation with the hospital and carrier.
Pass useful information to the destination team
Confirm who carries the discharge summary, current support instructions and receiving contact, and how the onward medical team will receive them. Detailed identifiable records should be exchanged with an appropriate verified recipient, not placed in an open website form.
Fix the road handover separately
Name the hospital exit, pickup time window, destination terminal, luggage and companion requirements. Clarify which party takes over at airport drop-off and whether any approved mobility assistance has been reserved with the airline.
Handover responsibility map
Hospital decides release and provides case-appropriate documentation.
Operating carrier determines its medical boarding conditions.
Ground provider confirms pickup boundary and equipment.
Questions before a booking
Does a hospital discharge note prove fit-to-fly approval?
No. Treating clinicians and operating carriers have separate decisions and documentation requirements.
Can transport be booked while hospital release is uncertain?
An option may be discussed provisionally; confirm dispatch only after release timing and required support are sufficiently clear.
